Pope Francis' funeral is being held today, April 26, 2025, in Rome, Italy, to honor the late head of the Catholic Church. The final rite is being performed at St. Peter's Square.

The pontiff, who led the Catholic Church for over a decade, was pronounced dead on Monday, April 21, 2025, by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, dean of the College of Cardinals.
The death certificate of Pope Francis indicates that he died while recovering from pneumonia, which had kept him hospitalized since February 2025.
