As an avowed Nkrumanist, Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa criticized Ghana's multi-party democracy at the UEW Public Lecture Series by saying, "I believe sincerely that multi-party democracy has done nothing for this country."
The UEW public lecture series 2025 took place on April 11 under the theme "Empowering Minds and Shaping the Continent for the 21st Century." The occasion included a lecture from Dr. Samuel Koranteng-Pipim, who spoke about the current education in Ghana and Africa, as well as a passionate speech from Prof. PLO Lumumba.
Delivering his speech, Prof. Akosa expressed his opinion that having different political parties as a country and being governed by principles of democracy have not impacted the nation positively.
He claimed politicians have benefited from democracy in Ghana, leaving the professional and working class totally marginalized. "Since 1992, the beneficiaries of the system have been the political class," he said.
The political class being in leadership does not respect the other sets, he believes, and that does not develop a country.
