The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) board chair, Keli Gadzekpo, has submitted his resignation.
He resigned immediately, citing personal reasons, according to the statement.
Gadzekpo, who was appointed to the Board in 2017 by Boakye Agyarko, the then-Minister of Energy, was given a crucial responsibility for guaranteeing energy sufficiency.
An experienced businessman, Gadzekpo has contributed to the expansion of a number of businesses, most notably the Databank Group of Companies, which includes Databank Epack Investment Fund Ltd. and Databank Asset Management Services.
Having worked in investment banking for more than 20 years, he is presently the chairman of the Enterprise Group board. Gadzekpo also serves as chair of the Databank Foundation, the Databank Group's corporate social responsibility division.
He also serves on the Boards of Bank of Ghana, Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Nature Conservation Research Centre (NCRC), an NGO involved in the development of rural ecotourism and community protected areas as a means of aiding economic development and resource conservation.
Having completed his education at Achimota School, Gadzekpo is a CPA in the United States and has a BSc in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
He furthered his education as a Mason Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, earning a master's degree in Public Administration.
In his letter of resignation, the finance expert reportedly stated that he was leaving his position for personal reasons.
His resignation, nevertheless, coincides with the nation's recent unstable power supply, which has prompted many requests for the ECG to issue a load shedding management schedule.
