Black Stars of Ghana host the Palancas Negras of Angola in their Group F opener tomorrow, September 5. The game will be staged at the Baba Yara Sports Studium, scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT.
Coach Otto Addo, managing the senior national team of Ghana for the second time has been promising, with two wins and a draw in four matches, despite a defeat to Nigeria and a 2-2 draw against Uganda in an international friendly in March 2024.
Black Stars recent wins include a dramatic 2-1 beating of Mali and a 4-3 victory over Central African Republic, both in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The match with Central African Republic was a goal-fest, with Louis Mafouta scoring a hat-trick for Central African Republic and Jordan Ayew responding with his own hat-trick for Ghana while Abdul Fatawu net a goal to put Ghana in front.
Black Stars, being a host for tomorrow's match have an ongoing unbeaten record against the visitors (Angola), winning and drawing two each against them in four previous meetings.
However, Palancas Negras of Angola enters this game on a high note after winning the COSAFA Cup in July, triumphing in the competition for the fourth time.
The Angola national team is aiming for it's 10th AFCON appearance, having reached the quarterfinals of the last edition before losing to Nigeria.
The possible starting IX for Ghana will include Ati-Zigi, Seidu, Mumin, Salish, Mensah, Samed, Fatawu, Kudus, Partey, Semenyo and Jordan Ayew whiles that of Angola will be Neblu, Mata, Gasper, Carmo, Cruz, Freddy, Nteka, Show, Milson, Dala and Mabululu.
These two sides faced off during the qualifying series of the last AFCON held in Ivory Coast, with the Black Stars securing a 1-0 home win and 1-1 draw in the return league.
Fans of the Ghana national team hopes to see the stars emerge as winners of the game after 90 minutes of action in Baba Yara Sports Studium tomorrow.
