Pastor Emmanuel Mystery, founder and presiding pastor of Seekers House Chapel International (Oasis Temple), has admonished young people to be prepared and first know their purpose in life before they think of getting into a relationship or marriage.
Pastor Mystery gave this advice in the church's periodic relationship program titled "Before I Say I Do." The program is organized by Seekers House Chapel to educate young people and the married about dating, courtship, and marriage.
Before I Say I Do is a training seminar to learn how to choose the right partner and things to know before marriage, and at the same time it gives fresh knowledge to couples on how to enhance their relationship.
Teaching in this edition of the program, which happened on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Pastor Mystery said marriage is a good thing. Marriage is a will of God, and it is created for men and women to enjoy. But one must be taught to know what is right and how to live a meaningful relationship.
According to him, a lot of people, especially the youth in this generation, enter into relationships with wrong perceptions. "Lately, the youth are doing things that are terrible in the name of relationships. It is important to know that relationship is for a man and a woman, not a boy and a girl," he said.
Primarily, Pastor Mystery taught two important things one must know before entering into a relationship or thinking of getting married. They were preparation and having a purpose for your life.
"Before you get married, you must know yourself, understand who you are, and be prepared.
You must know who you are, know your problems, and understand you before you think of bringing another person into your life. Sometimes the challenges that come up in relationships are because people get into it without knowing who they are," he said.
"Now if you don't understand who you are and get ready before marriage, you're going to be a problem in someone's life," he added.
He taught that one needs thorough preparation and understanding before you go into a relationship. "The best way to understand who you are and be prepared for relationships is to expose yourself to the word of God and to knowledge," he admonished.
"Marriage is a lifelong journey; therefore, be prepared. You need to learn how to do things for yourself now that you're single before you enter a relationship. Don't go into marriage with a mentality that the man should cater for your bills as a woman, or the woman should come and wash, cook, and do all the house cleaning for you as a man," Pastor Mystery said.
"Learn to understand you; take care of yourself; take care of your immediate environment as a man or woman. If you don't learn how to be happy and enjoy your singleness, you will not be happy in marriage," he advised.
The second important thing you must know and do before you think about relationships is to have and pursue your purpose. According to Pastor Mystery, there is more to life than relationships. "You must have a purpose in life. A career, vision, or assignment for your life before you think of bringing another person into your life," he cautioned.
"Young women, don't wait and say that I want someone rich to marry me and take care of me, thinking that you're beautiful and look good. You will be disappointed if that's your mentality," he advised.
He said, "Before you look out for someone, make sure you're not idle; you have a purpose, and you've put value on yourself."
"Purpose is what gives reasoning for living. You must be known for something, and that will help you to make the right choices because you know where you're going in life. Your life partner must come and find your purpose. And if you do that, he or she will respect and value you," he advised.
