Becoming influential or somebody in life is an inherent property of all humans, and truly, it is the desire of nature for everyone to succeed, live up to his or her full potential, and influence the world.
The world needs to recognize you for something, and it's a commendable goal if you aim to make a meaningful impact. Nevertheless, in the quest to make a name, you need to know that men of influence are persons who are known for one thing.
"This one thing I do" should be your mantra if you ever desire to be influential. Life is lived in phases, and there is a season for everything under the sun. The phrase "This one thing I do" is to teach you to focus on an area of life till it becomes your brand.
When you become successful in one thing until you are well known for it, your influence from that point gives you access into other spheres for more influence; that is why men of influence are known for one thing first.
In the Bible, Apostle Paul, the great proselytizer of Christianity, once said in his letter to the Philippian church, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
In this Bible verse, the apostle was speaking about his ministry or his work. After being saved through his encounter on the road to Damascus, he received an assignment of being an apostle to the Gentiles.
And what he meant in the scripture was that he always assumed himself as someone who has not completed the assignment given him and that he focused on that one thing (his ministry of the gospel to the Gentiles), leaving every past life behind him and forging towards the prize set before him.
This is the attitude of a man who became influential in Christianity even up to date. "But this one thing I do..." was his statement. After receiving the mandate, he was not known for anything but preaching the gospel, going on mission, and spending all his life writing letters to churches of Christ.
Out of the 27 books of the New Testament, Apostle Paul wrote 13 of them. He aided the advancement of Christianity in Rome and across Asia. His secret was the focus on one thing he does.
"This one thing I do" are words of people who know where they are going; men of purpose. To do one thing is about not entangling yourself with a lot of issues of life that affect your focus and determination in life.
Jesus was known as a man of one thing. He focused on his mission till the end of his life. His assignment was to save the world, and he gave his attention to that throughout his 33 years on earth. At a point, some people wanted to make him a king, but he fled (John 6:15).
People who rule the world and dominate spheres of influence have one particular thing associated with them. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana is referred to as the father of Pan-Africanism, and the world cannot forget about him for fighting for independence in Ghana and Africa.
Billy Graham, an American evangelist of the 20th and early 21st centuries, is known for preaching of salvation. He stayed on his assignment perpetually till he died.
The name Michael Faraday is attributed to electricity. Michael was known for discovering electrical energy and spending his life on scientific research in that regard. When you hear the names Messi and Ronaldo, what comes to mind is football, and that is what they are known for.
The name Bill Gates is known for Microsoft, as Steve Jobs is attached to Apple. Elon Musk is associated with Tesla Motors, while Mark Zuckerberg is known for Facebook. From being successful on Facebook, the name changed to Meta, purchasing other social media platforms to form a large corporation.
Throughout history, men and women of influence are people who are known for one particular thing. To be part of that class, it starts with discovery. You need to discover that one thing that you can do and work at it.
The one thing can be a gift within you; pay attention to it and develop it. Your gift can make room for you if you work at it. It can take you to the place of royalty when developed. Some men of influence are known for their natural gifts, which they have developed and worked at over a long period of time.
The one thing can also be a skill, a training you have acquired. When you subject your mind and body to developing a particular skill, you become a master of it, and that skill has the potential of making you successful and influential. You need to be known for one thing—a gift, a business, a special ability or skill developed.
Caution: Your sphere of influence or one thing that you're known for does not mean it is the limitation of your life. The title of the article says, "Men of influence are known for one thing first."
That means, you have unlimited potential and opportunities to do other things; you only have to be successful in one area first. This statement goes to persons with multiple gifts or talents, especially.
The fact that you have several abilities does not mean you should use them simultaneously. The demand on each of them might frustrate you and divide your focus. It is said, "A jack of all trades will be a master of nothing."
You need focus to be successful, which is why you must do one thing first and be wealthy and influential with it before venturing into another project of life.
Be a person of one thing. Let the world know you for a brand you have built over a period of time—it is your path to influence.
